  • Class "A" Commercial Vehicle Driving

    Overview

    This 320 clock hour program is offered throughout the school year.   You will need to get a Class “A” learning permit before starting class and the same requirements as a Class A licensee needs.  The Pell grant is NOT available for this program.

    The Commercial Vehicle Driving course runs 4 days a week, 10 hours per day for 8 weeks.  It will cover the various Department of Transportation regulations, demonstrations, handling freight, defensive driving techniques, how to handle accidents, aspects of insurance, customer relations, maintenance of equipment, dealing with various transmissions, backing, docking, day and night driving in town and over the road. 

    In the field students work on basic driving skills, handling equipment, dealing with various transmissions, backing, docking, and handling.

    Admission Requirements

    a. Minimum age of 18 years old.

    b. Applicants 18 to 21 years of age are only permitted to operate intrastate (only in Florida) once licensed.
    Participants must meet the Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) requirements to drive in Florida. Individual truck lines may have additional requirements.

    c. Participants must be able to pass the D.O.T. physical requirements to be employable.

    d. Applicants must have a Class "A" CDL training permit.

    e. Class "A" CDL training permit is required for Class A training.

    This 150 clock hour program is offered throughout the school year. You will need to get a Class “B” learning permit
    before starting class and the same requirements as a Class A licensee needs. Contact Kirk Abercrombie, Driving
    Instructor, at 904-964-5932 for information on dates and costs. The Pell grant is NOT available for this program.
